It might be some pecky little update that was automatically installed and defaults to not allowing anything new to run unless you track down some little checkbox in an obscure dialog that it hopes you never see. I've heard from others who have had stupid problems with the Windows firewall, and with other security aspects of Windwoes. It takes some time but less than re-installing everything and tweaking Windows into submission all over again. That is how I usually get myself out of all the crash-and-burn episodes that I get myself into (and believe me I do!).
I would try a thorough system "grooming" before doing anything desperate - clean up all temporary files ( clean and defrag the registry ( ) as well as defragging the drive ( )ĪND delete the paging file at bootup at least once, just for good measure. You could smell the smoke if there was any connection - a lot of people would be burning mad! I don't think Spybot is the culprit, there are too many people using both that and IrfanView.
